Finally, I selected Typo theme

Boardwalk theme

After testing some user functionalities, I selected Typo theme instead of Boardwalk. These are the some of the reasons:

1. Theme slowed down the blog speed.

2. I prefer to use media inside the post vs feature image.

2. Widgets didn´t appear in the main page.

Did you experience similar issues with your theme?

“Landscaping” your blog: Does it really matter?

El Peñol

Landscape in El Peñol, Antioquia [Colombia]

Normally, the decision to start a blog becomes complicated when you have to think about several things: your time availability, frequency of writing, topics, sort of audience, motivations, and, last but not least important, the look and feel.

In my case, because of the topics I would like to write, I prefer a minimalist theme where distractions don´t exist and reader can be focused while reading. After checking some themes, this is the list I would consider to change mine from Typo to other.

1. Isola

2. Imbalance 2

3. Manifest

4. Syntax

5. Minnow

6. Boardwalk

7. Hemingway Rewritten

8. Suburbia

I will try with Boardwalk because of the concept of horizontal scrolling, customization options, and functionalities. See new theme with next post.

By the way, I didn´t see a theme I´d never use!

Blogs as a tools to open your mind

Writing machine

The first blogging tool

I am not sure when I started to read blogs; I think it happened during 2004 while I was looking for specific info to develop a telecommunications project.

After finding some of them in the mentioned topic, I did some additional research and realized that many topics were published by people that always have something to share, something to tell, something to teach. Suddenly, blogs became the main source of information not only to afford professional goals but learning about personal improvement.

I want to share some of them I consider are a must read:

1. http://www.giveandtake.com/Home/Blog

2. http://zenhabits.net/

3. http://www.farnamstreetblog.com/

4. http://www.openculture.com/

5. http://www.edbatista.com/

6. http://blog.ted.com/

7. http://www.brainpickings.org/

I hope you enjoy some of the readings; I am sure you will find many interesting things in these blogs [if not enough time, begin exploring #3 and #7].

Rompecabezas is the site to clarify the puzzle in my head

aqui-es-pregunte

Here is it, ask!

When I think in learning something new or reinforce what I know, many topics come to my head. The everyday goal is to curate all the data I find in several information´sources as Twitter, blogs I follow, google plus, emails in my inbox, and deliberated browsing. Choosing  the right information is a challenge I enjoy everyday and this blog will help me to structure a personal management hub where I will register all important information I need to achieve my personal and professional goals.

That is the reason why I named this blog Rompecabezas [title], because it will be the space where I want to clarify the puzzle in my head [tagline].

My blogging purpose

The best things in life are not things

Blogging must have a purpose

My name is Ivan Orozco and am very happy to start the new year with Blogging 101.

I live in Medellin [Colombia] with my wife and two kids. In August 2014, I began the process of becoming an entrepreneur in eCommerce technologies using strategies (as knowledge management, collective intelligence, smart working, and of course, several topics in eCommerce) that help me to develop something different.

I see Blogging 101 as an opportunity not only to learn blogging [I have started some but have not been a constant blogger] to facilitate personal and professional goals but to improve my English skills, something that has been a little bit hard [maybe I will switch to Spanish when I do not find the right words to write my thoughts].

I named this blog Rompecabezas [that means puzzle] because of the several topics I like and as way to share with others what I know and what I want to learn.

I am sure this learning process with Blogging 101 will bring to us the right tools to make us happy bloggers.
